SOIL POLLUTION IN EL BUCARO VILLA NUEVA
This situation is affecting, not only Guatemala, it is affecting all the world. Soil pollution affects our plants, farmers’ fields, population, etc. Soil pollution is almost everywhere here in Guatemala, just a few places are clean. The municipality cleans certain areas, and forgets about others.
In my point of view, is really wrong that people in Guatemala don’t care about this situation. We have a lot of foreign that think about our country as a beautiful one. But reality is that, we are destroying those beautiful places that identify us as “the land of everlasting spring”.
We, as the young generation, can create groups to clean our own neighborhoods and other neighborhoods too. Ask the municipality if they can donate a few trash cans so we can put them on communities. Also avoid to burn garbage, since this contributes to air pollution too.
Soil pollution, as you can see in the pictures, is a big problem in my neighborhood, El Bucaro - Villa Nueva.
People throw their garbage everywhere around the neighborhood, they don’t just throw the garbage, they burn it. This is because; they don’t want to pay the garbage service. Since we live in a poor community, they prefer throwing the bags of garbage on the main street than paying for the services. I think is really unhealthy, because there’re kids living here, so they may get them an illness from all the garbage that is surrounding them. We can change this community by, doing a big recycling project where we take all of this garbage and separate from carton, glass, plastic, paper, and organic. This could be a idea to solve this kind of pollution here.
They just keep throwing trash even more, if people don’t take this kind of things seriously, we’re going to end up living in a big trashy country, which it’s already, but it can get worse. All of us have to take conscience on this, and help each other to help us. Do clubs, community services, pick up the least amount of trash, plant a tree, and recycle. These are the little things that we as responsible citizens can do to prevent this kind of pollution.

“The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.”
